history

The mining industry

The mining of the pit Ziethen is detected since 1,122th At that time, Emperor Henry V of Abbey Siegburg granted mining rights. Since the middle of the 19th century, the entire region had been looking for non-ferrous metal ores. In this context, the Ziethen mine was awarded on February 23, 1854 for copper , lead , silver and zinc to a Mr. Mertens from Brussels as a representative of the Rheinische Bergwerksgesellschaft in Cologne. The pit was named after the Prussian cavalry general H. J. von Ziethen . There have been driven into the mountain several tunnels and two shafts 70 meters drilled . From 1875 the owners changed several times until the Ziethen mine union took over the mine in 1897 . Since then, operations have been inactive. Last attempts to extract ore between 1922 and 1927 failed. What remained was a 100 m deep shaft on the main road in Seligenthal, mining heaps and tunnel openings that were filled in over time.

Local history

In 1910 there were the households Ackerer Christian, carpenter journeyman Peter and locksmith Theodor Böhm in Grube Ziethen. At that time the hamlet belonged to the Geistingen community .
