The Grundbach is the almost two kilometer long, right and eastern source brook of the Grundwiesenbach in the area of the municipality of Schonungen in the Lower Franconian district of Schweinfurt .

geography

course

The Grundbach rises in the Hesselbacher Waldland , which is also called Schweinfurt Rhön , at an altitude of 367  m above sea level. NHN an intermittent source southeast of the Schonungener district Waldsachsen on the edge of the hedge forest .

The stream initially flows northwest through the fields of the Schechberg corridor and is then fed a good half a kilometer later on its left by a ditch that also occasionally dries out.

The Grundbach now crosses the federal highway 303 and is immediately strengthened from the right by another ditch. It then runs south of the Friedhofweg through the southern part of the village of Waldsachsen, passes the local sports field and finally joins west of the village at an altitude of 313  m above sea level. NHN with the Gründleinsgraben coming from the south to Grundwiesenbach .

Catchment area

The Grundbach, which flows only inconsistently into the local area of Waldsachsen, drains an approximately 2.5 km² area which, in terms of natural space, belongs to the sub-area Hesselbacher Waldland of the Mainfränkische Platten . Underneath the loess sediment , some of which are lying on top , there are mosaic-like clods of the Lettenkeuper ( Erfurt Formation ) and the geologically closest Upper Muschelkalks , which were torn apart by a fault system with a few transverse faults extending from northwest to southeast. The area, which is only slightly wooded at high altitudes on the edge, is used for arable farming in large fields in the open land area. The village of Waldsachsen is the only settlement in it.

The highest point is at the eastern tip of the catchment area near the so-called Hochstraße from Buch to Waldsachsen at over 400  m above sea level. NHN . The neighboring streams competing in the north drain via the Wurmbach , then the Abersfelder Mühlbach and the Steinach finally southwest to the Main, the eastern ones last southeast via the Wässernach , those in the south run more directly to the Main, which flows at most four kilometers south of the Grundbach.
