Grupa Adamed

The Grupa Adamed is a Polish pharmaceutical group of companies, the generic and proprietary pharmaceutical researches, develops, manufactures and markets. The company is managed by the shareholders Maciej and Małgorzata Adamkiewicz .

history

The doctor Marian Adamkiewicz founded the Adamed company in 1986 . He was a gynecologist and ran a successful practice. He had submitted proposals for new drugs to pharmaceutical companies on several occasions, but these were not taken up. He established his own small production facility for gynecological medicines and medical accessories in a building that was previously used to raise chickens. In 1991 Furaginum , a drug for the treatment of urinary tract infections, was introduced, which quickly became the market leader. In 1994 Adamed built a modern production facility in Pieńkow near Warsaw, which enabled the company to grow. In 1996 the company was converted into a limited liability company (Sp.z oo).

In 1998, developed Adamed the product Amlozek , one on amlodipine -based drug used to treat high blood pressure . With this drug, which has been prescribed hundreds of thousands of times in Poland, the breakthrough came for the company. It was significantly cheaper than the original from Pfizer . Other foreign pharmaceutical companies also began to lose market share to Adamed (e.g. Eli Lilly in drugs for the treatment of schizophrenia ). For a while, you accused the Polish company of disregarding patents and copying manufacturing techniques. In 2000, Marian Adamkiewicz's son, Maciej, took over the management of the group.

In 2001 a second plant was opened in Ksawerów in the area of ​​the Special Economic Zone of Łódź . In 2009 the first foreign branches were opened in Ukraine and Spain ( Laboratorios Adamed SLU ). Adamed Inc. was founded in the USA . In Poland, the Polfa works in Pabianice ( Zakłady Farmaceutyczne Polfa SA ) and Agropharm SA were taken over in 2010, and they were integrated into Grupa Adamed . The acquired Agropharm is an essential part of Adamed Consumer Healthcare SA , in which OTC drugs and dietary supplements are manufactured.

In 2011, the group had a turnover of 600 million zlotys, exports to 25 countries and invests millions in the development of new drugs every year. This makes Adamed one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in Poland.
