Grzegorz Gwiazdowski (born November 3, 1974 in Lubawa ) was a Polish cyclist .

Athletic career

In 1998 Grzegorz Gwiazdowski became a professional with the French Cofidis team and won the silver medal at the Polish championships behind Tomasz Brożyna . He also took fourth place at the GP Ouest France-Plouay that same year . Gwiazdowski achieved his greatest success in the 1999 season when he won the championship in Zurich . This makes him the first and only Pole who was able to win a one-day race in the Cycling World Cup , which was held until 2004 . In 1999 he also won the Tour de l'Ain and was ranked 13th in the overall World Cup. In 1998 and 1999 he started at the UCI road world championships : in 1998 he finished 31st in the road race, the following year he could not finish the race.

In 2000, Gwiazdowski switched to the La Française des Jeux team and took part in the Tour de France for the first and last time . Gwiazdowski drove through to Paris and finished the Tour of France in 106th place. At the Giro d'Italia , he was previously 58th.

Honors

In 1999 Grzegorz Gwiazdowski was named Poland's “Cyclist of the Year”.
