In the history of the three kingdoms

The historical novel The Story of the Three Kingdoms by Luo Guanzhong is a romantic transfiguration of the Three Kingdoms period. The historically recorded data of the persons concerned are embellished with fiction.

Chapter 81 mentions a competition with Zhang Fei's son, Zhang Bao . The two warriors are eager to see who can lead the campaign against the Wu Empire to seek revenge for their fathers. Liu Bei asks them to form a brotherhood like their fathers once did, and the two become close friends and help Wu Ban (吴 班), who should lead the vanguard. From then on, Guan Xing and Zhang Bao should be inseparable.

In Chapter 83, Guan Xing kills Wu commander Pan Zhang (潘璋), who once captured his father Guan Yu under Lu Meng's command. Allegedly, Guan Yu's ghost drives into the Wu commander and freezes him in shock, making it easy for Guan Xing. This is how Guan Xing regains the Guan Dao , his father's weapon. Later, when the former Shu officers Mi Fang and Fu Shiren (who defected to Wu and caused Guan Yu's death) submit to Liu Bei, Liu Bei does not forgive them and orders Guan Xing to execute them in front of Guan Yu's altar.

In Chapter 91, Guan Xing is appointed Commander of the Left Guard (帳 前 左 護衛 使) and the "Rising Dragon General" (龍 驤 將軍). He then follows Prime Minister Zhuge Liang on his Northern Expeditions and dies of an illness in Chapter 102.
