List of grape varieties |
The white wine variety Guarnaccia (also called Guarnaccia Bianca, Cannamelu or Uarnaccia) is an autochthonous variety of Italy . Although it is said to have come from Sicily (according to the ampelographers Mazzei and Zappala), it can now only be found in the metropolitan city of Naples ( Campania ) and the province of Cosenza ( Calabria ). The area under vines there is 550 hectares .
The late-ripening variety is vigorous and gives regular yields. The wines are seldom made single-variety. They are often blended with other varieties, for example in the Calabrian DOC wine Verbicaro .
