Life
When Magdalen Nabb was seven years old, her father died and, a few years later, her mother. She studied art and pottery at the Art School in Manchester and then taught at an English art school. During this time she married and had a son. After a short time, the marriage was divorced again. First, Nabb dedicated herself to artistic work as a potter before starting to write and publishing her first detective novel. Her serial hero is the Maresciallo Salvatore Guarnaccia with the Carabinieri in Florence.
Furthermore, from 1989 onwards she wrote a successful children's book series about the young heroine Finchen (who is called Josie Smith in English ) from her former home in Lancashire, who is growing up without a father. For the second volume, Nabb received a Nestlé Smarties Book Prize . The book series is accompanied by an English television series that was filmed at Magdalen Nabb's former school.
She was also used for newspapers, etc. a. for the German Vogue , journalistic. Magdalen Nabb had a long-term pen friendship with the Belgian crime writer Georges Simenon , who wrote a foreword for her third novel Death in Springtime .
