Magdalen Nabb

Magdalen Nabb (born January 16, 1947 in Church, Lancashire , England , † August 18, 2007 in Scandicci , Florence ) was a British crime writer and children's and youth book author. She lived in Florence since 1975.

Life

When Magdalen Nabb was seven years old, her father died and, a few years later, her mother. She studied art and pottery at the Art School in Manchester and then taught at an English art school. During this time she married and had a son. After a short time, the marriage was divorced again. In 1975 Nabb spent their vacation in Tuscany with her son and was so enthusiastic that she spontaneously settled in Florence.

First, Nabb dedicated herself to artistic work as a potter before starting to write and publishing her first detective novel. Her serial hero is the Maresciallo Salvatore Guarnaccia with the Carabinieri in Florence.

Furthermore, from 1989 onwards she wrote a successful children's book series about the young heroine Finchen (who is called Josie Smith in English ) from her former home in Lancashire, who is growing up without a father. For the second volume, Nabb received a Nestlé Smarties Book Prize . The book series is accompanied by an English television series that was filmed at Magdalen Nabb's former school.

She was also used for newspapers, etc. a. for the German Vogue , journalistic. Magdalen Nabb had a long-term pen friendship with the Belgian crime writer Georges Simenon , who wrote a foreword for her third novel Death in Springtime .

Magdalen Nabb died of a stroke in Florence in August 2007 at the age of 60 .
