Gubbeltåga ( Lule : Gubbeltædno ) is a river in the town of Rana in the landscape Helgeland in the Norwegian province of Nordland .

Course and description

The river has its source in Lake Svangstjønna in the Saltfjellet Mountains. The Svangsbekken stream flows from Svangstjønna in a north-westerly direction to the headwaters of Gubbeltåga. This is located west of the Rándalgiera Karsee area and south of the Tjáhtjejuohkam land bridge , which is a regional watershed and separates the Randalselva river system in the south from that of the Saltdalselva in the north. The Gubbeltåga then flows in a south and south-westerly direction through the Gubbeltdalen , which is essentially formed by the mountain slopes of Bolna and Nasafjellet .

The Nordlandsbanen and Europastraße 6 (E6) also run through the Gubbeltalen, both of which are in the immediate vicinity of the river along the entire length of the river. About 1.6 km north of Bolna train station, the E6 crosses the river with a bridge.

Southwest of the Nasafjellet, the Gubbeltåga flows into the Randalseva, which rises in the eastern Randalen . The Randalselva changes its direction at this confluence and flows, like the Gubbeltåga before, to the southwest. About 5.5 km downstream the Randalselva flows together with the Virvasselva and from then on forms the Ranelva up to the confluence with the Ranfjord .

The Gubbeltåga is described in historical sources from 1742. In older maps there is a name change to Randalselva. The error was corrected by Kartverket in 1991.

etymology

The Norwegian name Gubbeltåga consists of the two word joints Gubbelt- and Åga ("river"). The name form was approved by Kartverket on November 4, 1984. The first part Gubbelt- is Sami. The second joint, Åga , is Norwegian and the definite article of the Norwegian word Å («river»). In the Umesamian language, the name forms Gubbeltjiænnō and Gubbeltjiænnuo are common. The official Lule Sami form of the name Gubbeltædno was approved by the Kartverket on May 29, 1987.
