The daughter of the engineer Max Thielemann attended high school and trained as an artist at the theater school of the Hamburg German Drama Theater . It was at this venue that she made her debut in 1947. After an interlude at the Lower Saxony stage in Höxter in the following season, Gudrun Thielemann returned to the Hanseatic city and then worked at the Theater im Zimmer and the Kammerspiele, among other things . Her early stage roles include Jeanette in Jean Anouilh's Romeo and Jeanette , Leonore d'Este in Goethe's Torquato Tasso , Marie in Büchner's Woyzeck , Gloria in Shaw's One Can Never Know and Mrs. Curley in Steinbeck's Von Mäusen und Menschen .

From 1952, offers from the cinema and numerous radio play assignments from the NWDR were added. Soon afterwards, television gained importance in Thielemann's career: her first TV appearance can be traced back to 1954. The tall, blonde artist was initially entrusted in front of the camera with roles as a nurse, chambermaid or secretary, in later years she was often cast as an elegant lady of the world and a well-to-do wife from the upper class. In addition to appearances in ZDF crime series, Gudrun Thielemann was mainly seen in literary adaptations. In addition, she devoted herself to dubbing. In the mid-1970s, after appearing in a Derrick episode, the artist retired into private life at the age of 50.
