Guido Meier

Guido Wilhelm Meier (born January 8, 1948 in Vaduz ) is a Liechtenstein lawyer and politician ( FBP ).

biography

Meier was born in 1948 as the son of the police officer and later Liechtenstein police chief Hermann Meier and his wife Maria (née Ospelt) in Vaduz and grew up with a brother and a sister. He attended high school in Vaduz, where he obtained his Matura in 1968 . He then studied economics and political science at the University of Tampa in Florida from 1968 to 1969 . He then studied law at the University of Basel . There he received a law degree in 1973 . Meier has now completed a doctorate at the University of Basel. He also worked as an intern at the Princely Regional Court in 1975 . In 1977, with the dissertation "basic statute and special reference in the IPR of Liechtenstein company law - explained on the basis of foreign conflict of laws doctrine and practice" his promotion to the doctorate in law .

Meier has been a trustee since 1977 . In 1978 he became a legal assistant in Ivo Beck's law office in Vaduz. In 1979 he passed the Liechtenstein bar exam and has since practiced as a lawyer and co-owner in various law firms.

From 1980 to 2015 he was a member of the Board of Trustees of the General Trust Company and during this time also held the office of President of the Board of Trustees from 2002 to 2015. He was a substitute judge at the State Court from 1984 to 1985 and then from 1985 to 1993. He was also President of the Liechtenstein Academic Society (LAG) from 1984 to 1986 and has been President of the Liechtenstein Institute since 1986 . Since 1986 he has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the “Princely Commerzienrat Guido Feger” foundation and from 2008 to 2016 also acted as its chairman. From 1987 to 1993 he was President of the Liechtenstein Examination Commission for Lawyers. From 1989 to 2016 he was a member of the Board of Directors of VP Bank . There he also held the office of Vice President from 2001 to 2016.

In February 1993 Meier was elected a member of the state parliament of the Principality of Liechtenstein for the Progressive Citizens' Party . In the subsequent election in October of the same year , he was originally elected deputy member of the state parliament. On December 20, 1993, however, he replaced Thomas Büchel . As a member of the state parliament, Meier was a member of the state committee and in 1993 acted as FBP parliamentary group spokesman.

Meier is a citizen of the municipality of Eschen and is married for the second time. His first marriage had two children. Meier has been Honorary Consul of the Principality of Monaco in Liechtenstein since 1989 .

He is a member of the Liechtenstein Bar Association .
