Hermann Meier (police officer)

Hermann Meier (born February 17, 1911 in Eschen , † February 29, 2000 in Vaduz ) was the police chief of the Princely Liechtenstein Security Corps .

Life

Hermann Meier was the son of Konrad Meier and his wife Karolina (nee Mündle). He was a citizen of the municipality of Eschen. After school he worked in his parents' farm. Later he worked as a machinist in Glarus. He completed police training at the Austrian Gendarmerie School in Bregenz and was one of seven police officers in the newly established security corps. On July 11, 1966, he was appointed the new Liechtenstein police chief by the government of the Principality of Liechtenstein , succeeding Josef Brunhart . Meier had previously been the deputy chief of police and the head of the investigation department. Meier remained police chief until his retirement in 1977. Prince Franz Josef II awarded him the Commander's Cross of the Princely Liechtenstein Order of Merit and the government the Princely Liechtenstein Medal of Merit in gold.

In 1941 he married Maria Anna Ospelt and moved to Vaduz. The marriage resulted in two sons and a daughter, including the future lawyer and politician Guido Meier .
