Guido Tabellini

Guido Enrico Tabellini (* 1956 in Turin , Italy ) is an Italian economist .

Career, research and teaching

Tabellini graduated in economics at the University of Turin in 1980 with his Laurea from title. He then left his home country and went to the United States . He continued his studies at the University of California, Los Angeles , where he graduated four years later as a Ph.D. He stayed in the US and moved to Stanford University as an assistant professor . In 1986 he returned to UCLA, where he later became an associate professor .

In 1990, Tabellini accepted a call from the University of Cagliari and returned to Italy as a full professor. Just a year later he moved on within Italy and took up an economics chair at the University of Brescia . In 1994 he moved to a private university. At the Luigi Bocconi University of Economics in Milan , he was also a director of the Innocenzo Gasparini Institute for Economic Research . From 2002 he headed the institute as president, after his election as rector of the university in 2008 he resigned that office. In 2012, Andrea Sironi succeeded him as rector, and he subsequently took over the Intesa Sanpaolo chair at the university.

Tabellini's work and research focuses on political economy and economics as well as corporate finance and industrial organization . In particular, the theory of growth under various political and social framework conditions are the focus of his research activities.

In 2007 Tabellini was President of the European Economic Association . He has received several awards for his work, including a. In 2001 he received the Yrjö Jahnsson Prize together with the French Philippe Aghion . He has been a Fellow of the Econometric Society since 2001 . The American Academy of Arts and Sciences it belongs since 2003 as a foreign honorary member. In 2012 he was elected a full member of the Academia Europaea . In 2016 the American Economic Association named him an honorary foreign member.
