Guillaume Duprat (Bishop)

Guillaume Duprat (* 1507 in Issoire ; † October 23, 1560 in Beauregard-l'Évêque , Department Puy-de-Dôme ) was a French clergyman and bishop of Clermont .

Life

Guillaume Duprat was the youngest of three children of the future Cardinal Antoine Duprat and his wife Françoise Veiny D'Abrouze, he also had an older brother and a sister. His mother died on August 19, 1508.

In 1529 he was appointed Bishop of Clermont to succeed his uncle Thomas Duprat . As such he took part in the last sessions of the Council of Trent . In his diocese he accepted the Jesuits and made them head of the colleges in Billom and Mauriac . Against a growing opposition, he also supported the Societas Jesu financially, including in 1550 with the establishment of the Collège de Clermont in Paris , which was named after Duprat's bishopric.
