Life

Salviati opposed Cosimo I's takeover in Florence in July 1537. Therefore, together with Piero Strozzi , a great-grandson of Lorenzo the Magnificent, he led an army of Florentine republicans, which consisted of 4,000 infantry and 300 horsemen and was supported by French troops, against the 1st Duke of Tuscany. However, Cosimo I managed to set up an army of Tuscan, Spanish and imperial troops in time, which on August 1, 1537, under the command of the general Alessandro Vitelli, defeated the republican troops at Prato.

Bernardo Salviati was General of the Galleys of the Sovereign Order of Malta and Grand Prior of the Grand Priory of Rome of the Order of Malta from 1525 to 1563 .
