Piero Strozzi
Piero Strozzi (* 1510 in Florence , † June 21, 1558 in Thionville ) was a member of the Florentine patrician family Strozzi and Condottiere . His father was Filippo Strozzi the Younger ( il Giovane ) (1488-1538), his mother Clara de 'Medici (1493-1528), sister of Lorenzo di Piero de' Medici . His brother was Leone Strozzi .
Life
He studied in Padova around 1529 and then returned to Florence. On August 1, 1537 he fought (and was defeated) at the side of his father and brother in the battle of Montemurlo . He had been married to Laudomia de 'Medici, sister of Lorenzino de' Medici , since 1539 , and was still a fierce opponent of the Medici who fought for the French in the Italian wars . On August 2, 1554, the French troops under his leadership and the allied Sienese were defeated in the battle of Scannagallo near Marciano della Chiana in the Chiana valley (Val di Chiana) against Duke Cosimo I of Florence. Nevertheless, he was appointed Marshal of France in 1555 . He took part in the French siege of Calais in 1557 and fell in 1558. It is believed that he introduced the Dragoons .
He was the father of Filippo Strozzi . Piero Strozzi was buried in Épernay .
