Guitar Men is a German low-budget production that sees itself as an homage to the B-movies and gangster films of the 1960s and 1970s. Guitar Men combines cinematic features from the genres of action, comedy, thriller and mystery.

The film premiered on June 28, 2007 in Berlin and was released on DVD on October 24, 2008 in Germany. The edition is limited to 1,000 pieces.

action

In view of the impending defeat at the end of the Second World War , German scientists hide a microfilm with the construction plans of a super weapon in a guitar. After the war ended, the guitar fell into the hands of Elvis Presley, from whom it was stolen after a concert. A few decades later, the instrument was indirectly returned to Germany, into the hands of a successful Elvis impersonator.

But various organizations around the world are interested in the guitar and its explosive content. A heated battle breaks out over the construction plans, in which various representatives of well-known secret societies and secret services compete with each other for the coveted microfilm. And so the microfilm changes hands from the little crook to the Vatican, Russian secret services, to mysterious ninja alliances and secret Nazi lies.

reception

The Berliner Tagesspiegel called the film "the ultimate conspiracy film" in advance. Stefan Dabrock's opinion of Guitar Men about the later DVD release : "The absurd B-film homage has appealing entertainment potential due to clever locations and coherent individual scenes, but does not combine to form a unit." Cinefacts wrote: "Knallharte contract killers and secret organizations operating worldwide in the murderous struggle for a relic that hides much more than just a simple instrument. The merciless hunt for the guitar of the "King of Rock'n Roll" leaves a trail of violence and death ".

backgrounds

The film was shot on 20 days in August 2006 exclusively in Berlin and Potsdam. The locations here included u. a. the Chinese Garden in Marzahn or the Gendarmenmarkt . It was originally calculated with a budget of € 376,000; The creative minds behind the film managed to reduce the financial resources to the bare minimum through contacts in the film industry.

The title "Guitar Men" is reminiscent of a song of the same name and later also an album with the title "Guitar Man" by Elvis Presley , although the original title comes from the American country singer Jerry Reed .
