Gumpert von Brandenburg , also Gumprecht (born July 16, 1503 in Ansbach , † June 15, 1528 in Naples ) came from the Franconian branch of the Hohenzollern and was canon in Bamberg and papal envoy.

origin

Gumpert von Brandenburg was a son of the Ansbach and Kulmbach margrave Friedrich II and the Polish princess Sofia Jagiellonka , a daughter of King Casimir IV Jagiełło . He had numerous siblings. many of which gained greater importance, including Casimir , Georg the Pious and Albrecht (see also the list of the Hohenzollern tribes ).

Life

Gumpert von Brandenburg was canon of Bamberg and a member of the cathedral chapter . He became Pope Hadrian VI. called to Rome and also served under his successor Clement VII. During the Sacco di Roma he was imprisoned during a diplomatic mission and died of the consequences of injuries sustained in his captivity. He was buried in San Giacomo degli Spagnoli .
