Wild roses, sloes and hawthorn grow on the dry grass next to juniper bushes . In the rocky regions, a steppe heath has developed between limestone cliffs. Various orchids grow in the Gungoldinger juniper heatherand other rare plants such as the Felsennelkenanger that Spitzblättrige Minimize that Kahlblättrige Heideröschen that Pasque , the Spring, and the fringed gentian German. The heather is a habitat for endangered butterfly species, including sail butterflies and mountain witches . Sheep grazing is used to maintain the heather, which is adapted to strong sunlight and drought, in order to push back bushes and forests.
