Geographical location

The Arzberg is located in the Altmühltal nature park between Beilngries directly in the west and Dietfurt a little further away in the east, with the urban areas of Beilngries (western Arzberg) and Dietfurt (eastern Arzberg) extending far to the predominantly wooded mountain. In the valley north of the mountain is Ottmaring (to Dietfurt), to the south are Kottingwörth (to Beilngries), Grögling and Töging (both to Dietfurt).

To the north, in the section between Beilngries and Dietfurt in the Ottmaringer dry valley, the Main-Danube Canal runs past the Arzberg. The Sulz once flowed through this valley , which during the last Ice Age broke through the rock bar to the Altmühltal and since then - today after flowing through Beilngries - it has flowed into the Altmühl, which flows south of the mountain . The canal was integrated into the course of both rivers.

The Arzberg is about six kilometers long in a west-east direction and a maximum of two kilometers wide in a north-south direction.

On the western Arzberg there are the remains of a prehistoric section fortification .
