Gunnar Steinn Jónsson (born May 4, 1987 in Akureyri ) is a handball player from Iceland .

The 1.92 meter tall and 90 kilogram heavy backcourt player initially played for the Icelandic club HK Kópavogur . From 2009 he was under contract with HK Drott . In the summer of 2012, Gunnar Steinn Jónsson joined the French first division club HBC Nantes . For the 2014/15 season he moved to the German Bundesliga club VfL Gummersbach , where he received a contract until 2016. From summer 2016 he played for the Swedish club IFK Kristianstad . With Kristianstad he won the Swedish championship in 2017 and 2018. For the 2018/19 season he joined the Danish first division club Ribe-Esbjerg HH .

For the Icelandic national team he was in the extended squad for the 2011 World Cup , he has played 42 international matches and scored 36 goals.
