Gunniopsis is a genus of plants fromthe afternoon flower family (Aizoaceae). The botanical name of the genus honors the Australian botanist and politician Ronald Campbell Gunn (1808-1881).

The species of the genus Gunniopsis grow as annual to perennial herbaceous plants , the base of which is woody in some species, or as woody shrubs . The opposite leaves are free or grown together at their base, the bladder cells protrude more or less.

The flowers appear due to the sheet-like bracts often than single flowers, but actually in a sometimes very large zymosen inflorescence stand together. Your perigon is four-lobed. The perigone lobes are fused or free at the base. The 4 to 30 stamens stand together in four groups or different whorls. The pollen is spotted and covered with low, scattered thorns, the ovary is central or above. The capsule fruits are fourfold. The swelling strips are located laterally on the flaps, which often disintegrate into eight parts when opened for the first time. The fruits contain egg-shaped to almost circular, smooth or patterned seeds .
