Gunten is a small town in the municipality of Sigriswil in the canton of Bern . The village is located on the north bank (sunny side) of Lake Thun . It is built on the scree cone of the Guntebach.
Gunten can be reached on the main road from Interlaken towards Thun and is located between the villages of Merligen and Oberhofen on Lake Thun .
Thanks to its mild and balanced maritime climate and an altitude of 565 m above sea level. M. , Gunten is a holiday resort for the whole year. From Gunten you can see the Niesen , the Simmental and the mountains of the Bernese Oberland .

Gunten existed very early, it was called Gallo-Roman Cumbitta . In 1239, in the Middle Ages , it was called Gomptan . In 1347 the wine region of Gunten was bought by the citizens of Sigriswil from Count Eberhard von Kyburg for 300 Thun pfennigs . The town of Gunten has been part of the Sigriswil community since then. In 1870 Guntens was better developed through the Seestrasse Thun-Interlaken; that was also useful for promoting tourism.
traffic
In 1913 a tram went into operation, which in turn was replaced in 1952 by the Thun – Beatenbucht trolleybus, which ran until 1982 . Today Gunten is served by bus line 21 of the STI transport company.
