Gunter Mulack

Gunter Mulack (born September 23, 1943 in Landsberg an der Warthe ) is a German diplomat.

Life

After graduating from high school, Mulack studied law and Islamic sciences at the Philipps University in Marburg and the Georg August University . In 1966 he became a member of the Curonia Goettingensis . From 1968 to 1969 he was an assistant at the Institute for International Law at the University of Göttingen. As part of a postgraduate law degree at the University of California, Berkeley , he obtained the academic degree Master of Laws (LL.M.), in 1971 he was awarded a Dr. jur. PhD . After joining the Foreign Service in 1971, he worked at the embassies in Egypt ( attaché ) and in Lebanon (second secretary). From 1974 to 1978 Mulack was Permanent Representative of the Ambassador to Kuwait . After a job at the Embassy in Venezuela (Head of the Economic Department), he was permanent representative of the Ambassador to Jordan from 1980 to 1983 . As part of a renewed assignment in the Foreign Office , he was most recently deputy head of a department in the legal department from 1986 to 1990.

In 1990 Mulack became Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Casablanca . Just one year later he became the ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Kuwait and Bahrain . From 1995 to 1999 he was head of a department in the Political Department of the Federal Foreign Office. In 1999 he became the ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Syria . From 2002 to August 2005, Mulack was the representative for the dialogue with the Islamic world and the dialogue of cultures in the culture and education department of the Federal Foreign Office. In 2005 he became ambassador to Pakistan . In 2008 he retired. Since September 2008 he has been director of the German Orient Institute in Berlin . In addition to English and French, he also speaks Arabic and Spanish.

Gunter Mulack is married and has a daughter.
