Gunther Ulf Martin

Gunther Ulf Martin (born September 23, 1976 in Aschaffenburg ) is a German classical philologist .

Life

After high school in 1996 at Kronberg-Gymnasium Aschaffenburg , he studied in Munich , where he developed the 2002 State Exam in Latin and Greek at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich took off. After receiving his PhD in Classical Studies in 2005 at Balliol College in Oxford with a dissertation on Religion in Demosthenes with Robert Christopher Towneley Parker , he was assistant at the Institute for Classical Philology in Bern from 2005 to 2007 . From 2007 to 2010 he was a tutor and fellow at Lady Margaret Hall, representing Richard Jenkyns . He was an Advanced Research Fellow at the University of Nottingham from 2010 to 2011. The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) funded him from 2011 to 2014 as an Ambizione fellow at the Institute for Classical Philology in Bern. After his habilitation in 2013 in Bern Euripides: Ion. Edition and Commentary , he has been an SNSF professor for The Pragmatics of Dialogue in Ancient Tragedy at the University of Zurich since 2015 .

His main research interests are tragedy, rhetoric and historiography of the Roman Empire .
