Gunther von Wüllersleben (* unknown; † May 3 or 4, 1252 ) was the 8th Grand Master of the Teutonic Order from 1249 to 1252 .

Life

Wüllersleben came from a ministerial family of the Hersfeld monastery , which came from Wüllersleben in the Ilm district ( Thuringia ). His date of entry into the order is not known, but he lived as a simple knight in Acre until 1215 . It is possible that he is the Order Marshal of Palestine of the same name , who we met there from 1228 to 1230.

Certainly he is attested again as a friar in Thuringia in 1234 , from where he could have become commander in Puglia if he is identical with the official of the same name from 1240 to 1244. In any case, we find him in the company of the Grand Master in Prussia in 1246 , namely in Thorn and Elbing .

Günther von Wüllersleben was elected Grand Master in Akkon in 1249 or 1250. Ludwig von Queden , the defeated opposition candidate that of Dietrich von Grüningen cited pro-papal party was as Landmeister sent to Prussia.

Nothing is known about Günther von Wüllersleben's term of office; he probably resided in Acre until his death. During his tenure, the sixth crusade took place, in which a large contingent of German knights had participated. However, Wüllersleben is not mentioned in this context. He died on May 3rd or 4th, 1252.
