Gustav Beckmann (historian)
Gustav Beckmann (born October 15, 1864 in Osnabrück , † March 26, 1928 in Erlangen ) was a German historian.
Beckmann studied at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen and the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität zu Berlin , among others with Heinrich von Treitschke and Gustav von Schmoller . After completing his doctorate with Julius Weizsäcker and working as an archivist in Naumburg (Saale) , in 1891 he became an employee of the historical commission at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences for the publication of the German Reichstag files . After completing his habilitation with Karl Theodor von Heigel in Munich in 1902, he became associate professor in 1907 and full professor at the Friedrich-Alexander University in Erlangen in 1909 .
In 1902 Beckmann became an extraordinary member, and in 1914 a full member, of the Historical Commission, for which he continued to publish volumes of the "older series" of the Reichstag files.
