Gustav August Braun (from 1900 Gustav von Braun  ; born May 28, 1829 in Zistersdorf , † February 2, 1911 in Vienna ) was an Austrian gynecologist and obstetrician .

Life

Gustav Braun studied in Prague and Vienna. In 1853 he received his doctorate from the University of Vienna . He then worked as an assistant and from 1857 as a professor at the obstetric clinic for doctors in Vienna. In 1856 he had to be a lecturer in obstetrics habilitation . In 1862 he was appointed professor for this subject at the Joseph Academy . After its abolition, he took over the chair for midwives at the University of Vienna. In 1872 he succeeded Joseph Späth . From 1883 to 1884 he was dean of the medical faculty. He headed the obstetric clinic until 1891. He was a member of the kk supreme medical council.

Gustav Braun was the younger brother of the gynecologist Carl Braun von Fernwald (1822-1891; also Karl von Braun-Fernwald or Karl Ritter Braun von Fernwald).
