Gustav Eberhard (architect)
Gustav Eberhard (born May 5, 1805 in Coburg , † April 23, 1880 in Gotha ) was a German architect and building officer (court building officer) of the Duchy of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha .
Life
Eberhard was born the son of a construction manager in Coburg and attended high school in Coburg. He prepared himself for his profession as an architect through private studies. He studied in Paris with A. Leclerc in 1824 and made extensive trips to Italy in 1826, where he was accompanied by Reinié-Gretry.
In 1827 he returned to Coburg and had been in the Gothic civil service from 1828. He was significantly involved in the planning of Reinhardsbrunn Castle and in the planning of several representative buildings in the duchy. In 1842 he was appointed building officer. In 1846 he organized the 5th assembly of German architects in Gotha with 120 participants. In 1859 he became a secret councilor .
After falling ill, he retired in 1865 and died 15 years later in Gotha.
The builder and architect Bruno Eberhard (1836–1901) was his son, the astronomer Gustav Eberhard was his grandson and the sinologist and ethnologist Wolfram Eberhard was his great-grandson.
