Gustav Emil Leberecht Hartwig (born December 15, 1839 in Unkersdorf , † February 25, 1908 in Dresden ) was a German builder and conservative politician .

Live and act

The son of elementary school teacher Karl Gottlob Hartwig in Unkersdorf received his first education at the elementary school in his home village. He then attended the building trade school in Dresden in addition to an apprenticeship as a carpenter . He initially settled in Roßwein as a master builder , but later moved to Meißen and Dresden.

From 1873 to 1879 he represented the 24th urban electoral district in the second chamber of the Saxon state parliament .

From 1882 to 1890 and from 1892 to 1902 Hartwig was city ​​councilor for the Saxon residence city of Dresden. From May 1898 he acted as 2nd and from 1899 to 1900 as 1st vice chairman of the college. In the city council he acted as leader of the house owners faction in connection with the anti-Semitic German Reform Party . In particular, from 1884 to 1889, he was a leading head of the opposition to the council's policies. From the mid-1880s he was one of the leaders of the Reform Party.

From October 1884 to February 1887 he represented the 5th Saxon constituency (Dresden on the left of the Elbe) in the Reichstag . In the Reichstag handbook he is described as Christian-social-conservative .

Hartwig belonged to the main board of the SME Association in the Kingdom of Saxony . From 1903 to 1906 he was an unpaid city councilor of Dresden. Until 1907 he was chairman of the Dresden General House Owners Association and director of the Association of German Landowners Associations. Hartwig died in Dresden in 1908 and was buried in the Johannisfriedhof .
