Gustav Adam Friedrich Wiggers (born October 25, 1777 in Biestow , † May 4, 1860 in Rostock ) was a German Protestant theologian and professor at the University of Rostock .

Life

Gustav Friedrich Wiggers, son of Pastor Otto Ernst Wiggers from Biestow , attended the Güstrow Cathedral School from 1791 . In April 1795 he began studying theology, philosophy and philology in Rostock. In 1799 he moved to the University of Göttingen for a semester, where he was a member of the Constantist student order . From 1799 to 1802 he was a private tutor at Hohendorf Castle and prepared from there for the exams in order to be able to become a pastor in Swedish-Pomerania . After he had taken this in Greifswald in 1801 and was also admitted to Mecklenburg-Schwerin in 1802 , he was awarded a doctorate in 1803 at the University of Rostock. phil. PhD. He then completed his habilitation and became a private lecturer in Rostock. In 1808 he became professor of theology in Rostock. In 1810 he was also promoted to Dr. theol. doctorate and took over the position of inspector of the pedagogical-theological seminar. For this doctoral procedure, Wiggers wrote two dissertations, one of which he withdrew. Wiggers was appointed consistorial councilor in 1813 and provisional to the monastery of the Holy Cross . From 1821 his main work, Attempt at a pragmatic representation of Augustinism and Pelagianism according to historical developments, was published.

Gustav Friedrich Wiggers was the first rector of the university from July 1824 to July 1825. From 1837 to 1840 he was rector for three consecutive years. With the division of his seminar into two departments, Wiggers took over the catechetical department in 1841. In 1858 he was honored as professor with the title of senior consistorial councilor for 50 years. In the last years of his life he was troubled by the political fate of his two sons Moritz and Julius .
