Gustav Theodor Hans Gerstenberger (born February 17, 1892 in Serkowitz , † January 22, 1979 in Dresden ) was a German hydraulic engineer and university professor .

Life

At the Realgymnasium in Dresden he obtained his Abitur in 1911, was an intern in the railway workshops in Dresden-Friedrichstadt in 1912 and studied civil engineering at the Technical University of Dresden from 1913 . In 1920 he obtained the civil engineering diploma. In 1921 he was government construction manager at the Saxon road and hydraulic engineering administration. From 1921 to 1923 he worked in Adolf Ludin's engineering office in Karlsruhe . In 1923 he passed the second state examination. From 1923 to 1925 he was an assistant at the Technical University of Dresden with Hubert Engels and Heinrich Heiser . In 1925 he worked as an engineer at the Water Management Association and Energy Supply Greater Dresden. Then he was entrusted with the preliminary investigations for the Niederwartha pumped storage power station in the Saxon hydraulic engineering department. From 1927 he was deputy head of the Leipzig sewer construction council . In 1930 he was a clerk in the Prussian Canal Construction Office in Halle . In 1933 he was head of the canal construction office (later the waterway construction office) in Leipzig. In 1942 he was appointed senior councilor and advisor for matters relating to the Elbe in the Dresden hydraulic engineering department. From 1946 to 1947 he worked at the Steyer company in Leipzig. In 1947 he worked in the port construction office of the city of Leipzig. In 1949 he was a civil engineer at the Böhlen gasoline plant. In 1950 he was the main advisor to the State Government of Saxony, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Department of Water Management. In 1951 he received his doctorate with a thesis on pumped storage. From 1952 he headed the reconstruction and construction of pumped storage power plants in his home country. At the same time he was given a teaching position at the Technical University of Dresden. In this capacity, he was appointed part-time professor for hydraulic engineering in 1956. Gerstenberger's field of work was pumped storage. In teaching, he represented both general and special areas of hydraulic engineering due to his many years of professional experience.
