Gustav Greiff

Gustav Greiff (born May 11, 1850 in Wiesloch , † January 7, 1927 in Munich ) was a shoe manufacturer in Wiesloch and a member of the Baden state parliament . For community engagement he also became an honorary citizen of Tairnbach .

Life

Greiff was the son of the Wiesloch postman Karl David Greiff and grandson of the postman and member of the state parliament Jakob David Greiff . He attended the Wiesloch high school and then the commercial school. Then he took part as a soldier in the Franco-German War in 1870/71, where he was honored with the Prussian Iron Cross 2nd class. He founded the Gauverein Wiesloch of the Baden War and Military Association and was an active reservist until 1882.

In 1878 he became the owner of an agency and commission business in Munich, and in 1880 he ran a shoe shop. In 1884 he returned to Wiesloch, where he founded the United Leather and Shoe Factory Wiesloch , of which he remained a partner throughout his life. From 1889 to 1904 he was a member of the 34th to 41st session of the second Baden Landtag Chamber, where he was part of the national liberal parliamentary group. He was youth secretary in 1889/90, chamber secretary in 1889/92 and from 1893 a member of the Commission for Railways and Roads. He participated in various parliamentary events and also took a position on tax issues, tariffs, bills and budget issues, forestry and education, agriculture, etc. In the communal area he was involved in various ways for the electrification and sewerage of the city of Wiesloch, for the railway expansion and for the construction of the Wiesloch sanatorium . In addition, he obtained the replacement of the Fideikommiss in Tairnbach , where he was made an honorary citizen. From 1893 to 1898 he was a substitute at the Heidelberg district committee. From 1905 on he lived as a private citizen in Munich.

Awards

In 1892 he was awarded the Knight's Cross 2nd Class of the Order of the Zähringer Lion. In 1902 he received the Knight's Cross, 1st class.
