Gustav Großklaus (born January 25, 1882 ; † April 13, 1963 ) was a German winemaker . He is a pioneer of the cooperative system in Germany.

Career

After graduating from school, he learned the profession of winemaker at Professor Adolph Blankenhorn's winery in Ihringen . He then worked as a manager on the estate for almost 20 years. When the local wine merchant Heinrich Rappenegger had to cease operations as a result of inflation, Großklaus founded the Kaiserstühler Winzergenossenschaft Ihringen in 1924 during the turbulent times of political developments in the Republic of Baden , in which around 200 Ihringen winemakers came together. Under his leadership, it developed into the largest local winegrowers' cooperative in Germany. The upswing began in particular after the construction of its own cellar building in 1936. In 1952 he was instrumental in founding the central winery of Baden winegrowers' cooperatives, today Badischer Winzerkeller , in Breisach am Rhein and was a member of its board until shortly before his death.

He worked on a voluntary basis as chairman of the board of the savings and credit bank Ihringen. For many years he was a member of the municipal council of Ihringen and deputy mayor. He was also a member of the district council in the Freiburg district .
