Gustav Hasselbach (tax officer)

Gustav Hasselbach (born February 2, 1818 in Stettin ; † December 29, 1898 in Berlin ) was a German tax officer.

Life

After attending high school in Stettin Gustav Hasselbach studied at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University of Bonn and the Friedrich-Wilhelms-University of Berlin law . In 1836 he became a member of the Corps Rhenania Bonn . After completing his studies he became an auscultator in 1838 , a court trainee in 1840, a government trainee in Gumbinnen in 1841 and a government assessor in Frankfurt (Oder) and Stettin in 1843 .

Hasselbach was appointed head of the main customs office in Demmin in 1844 and later that year as provincial tax administrator in Stettin with responsibility for indirect taxes . In 1850 he moved to the Prussian Ministry of Finance in Berlin as a laborer and in 1851 to Stralsund as chief customs inspector .

Hasselbach returned to the Prussian Ministry of Finance as a government councilor in 1853. In 1858 he was appointed to the Secret Finance Council and Lecturing Council . In 1864 he became a secret finance councilor. In 1869 he was appointed to the Federal Council and the North German Confederation . In 1870 Hasselbach was appointed to the Real Secret Chief Finance Council and appointed General Director of Indirect Taxes. He held the position until his retirement in 1889. Honored in 1879 with the appointment to the Real Privy Council and the bestowal of the title of Excellence , in 1880 he became chairman of the Central Statistical Commission .
