Gustav Ineichen

Gustav Ineichen (born June 6, 1929 in the canton of Lucerne ; † July 10, 2005 in Göttingen ) was a Swiss Romance studies and linguist .

life and work

Ineichen studied at the University of Friborg with Gianfranco Contini and Arrigo Castellani and received his doctorate in 1957 with The Paduan dialect at the end of the 14th century on the basis of Erbario Carrarese (in: Zeitschrift für Romansische Philologie . Vol. 73, No. 1/2, 1957, pp. 38-123, doi : 10.1515 / zrph.1957.73.1-2.38 ). He completed his habilitation in 1963 at the University of Zurich with a thesis that he had written during a research stay with Gianfranco Folena at the University of Padua : El libro Agregà de Serapiom. In 1967 he was appointed to the chair for Romance Linguistics at the University of Göttingen , where he worked until his retirement in 1995 (successor: Günter Holtus ). From 1970 to 1975 he was also director of the Swiss Institute in Rome.

For many years Ineichen was editor of the Romance Bibliography (1963–1996) and the Romance workbooks (1973 ff.). He was a member of the Accademia Galileiana in Padua and the New York Academy of Sciences .
