Günter Holtus

Günter Holtus (born October 14, 1946 in Bremen ) is a German Romanist .

Life

After graduating from high school in Bremen in 1966 at the Waller Ring grammar school, Holtus studied English , philosophy and Romance studies at the University of Marburg from 1966 to 1971 . In 1971 he received his doctorate and passed the first state examination. As a scholarship holder at the Centro tedesco di studi veneziani , he prepared his habilitation from 1971 to 1973. From 1973 to 1974 he was a representative of an assistant position at the Romance Department of the University of Heidelberg , from 1974 to 1980 he was a research assistant at the Romance Studies Institute of the Saarland University . Here he received his habilitation in 1977 and was appointed professor. In May 1980 he accepted a C2 professorship for Romance studies at the University of Mainz with a focus on Gallo Romance studies , Italian linguistics and literature. In 1982 he was elected to the Bureau des sections nationales: Allemagne Fédérale of the Société Rencesvals . In 1983 he switched to a C3 professorship with a focus on Gallo Romance and Italian Studies at the University of Bonn .

In 1987 he went to the University of Trier , where he received a C4 professorship with a focus on Italian and applied linguistics. Here he was the representative of the language center until 1995. In Trier, Holtus held numerous functions in academic self-administration. From 1989 to 1993 he was Vice Dean and Dean of Faculty II. As Vice President of the University from 1993 to 1995 he was responsible for the budget, construction and planning departments. In 1995 Holtus accepted the call for a C4 professorship at the University of Göttingen for Romance Philology (Linguistics). From April 2007 to March 2009 he was Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy.

Holtus is married and has three daughters.

From 1984 to 2005 Holtus was co-editor of the Lexicon of Romance Linguistics (LRL). In 1985 he was elected a corresponding member of the Centro di studi filologici e linguistici siciliani in Palermo . From 1989 to 1999 he was co-editor of the Journal for Romance Philology (ZrP); from 2000 to 2014 he was the sole editor of both the ZrP and the supplements to the ZrP (successor: Claudia Polzin-Haumann / Wolfgang Schweickard ). Since 1992 he has been a member of the board of the Société de Linguistique Romane , Vice-President from 1995 to 2001, President from 2001 to 2007, and since 2007 "membre d'honneur" (honorary member). Since 1994 he has been a member of the academic advisory board of the Accademia di studi italo-tedeschi . From 1995 to 1998 he was co-editor of the Romance Bibliography , from 1998 to 2013 he was its main editor (successor: Guido Mensching ). From 1998 to 2007 Holtus was also an expert reviewer for the German Research Foundation . Together with Fernando Sánchez Miret, he is the series editor of the successor manuals to the LRL, the Manuals of Romance Linguistics (MRL), which have been published since 2014 .
