Gustav Ludwig Janson

Gustav Ludwig Janson (born January 6, 1710 in Oldenburg ; † May 21, 1788 ibid) was a German Lutheran theologian and superintendent of the county of Oldenburg .

Life

After attending grammar school in Oldenburg, Janson studied theology at the University of Jena from 1727 to 1728 . He then served as Gesandtschafts secretary working. From 1732 he officiated as chaplain in Neuchâtel and from 1736 as pastor in Golzwarden . In 1776 he followed his father as senior pastor at St. Lamberti in Oldenburg. Like his father before him, he was appointed consistorial councilor and general superintendent of the counties of Oldenburg and Delmenhorst . Janson was strictly Orthodox and opposed Pietism and the Enlightenment , the breakthrough in Oldenburg he delayed.

Janson married Elisabeth Beate geb. Schloifer (1702-1775). The resulting son Hector Friedrich (1737-1805) became a professor at the University of Copenhagen and Bishop of Aarhus .
