Gustav Schoser

Gustav Schoser (born August 22, 1924 in Trochtelfingen ; † January 5, 2012 ) was a German botanist . Between 1968 and 1992 he was the director of the Frankfurt Palm Garden .

Life

From 1948 to 1953, Schoser studied theology for a few semesters and then natural sciences at the University of Tübingen . After his legal clerkship, he passed the second state examination for teaching at secondary schools in 1957 and received his doctorate in 1957 under Erwin Bünning . Schoser worked on photobiology . From 1957 to 1968 Schoser was curator and academic director at the Botanical Institute and Botanical Garden of the University of Tübingen. In 1968 the Botanical Garden in Tübingen moved to the New Botanical Garden. In September of the same year he moved to the Palmengarten in Frankfurt am Main . He was co-founder and at times managing director of the Association of Botanical Gardens .

Paphiopedilum sukhakulii

Schoser was a lecturer for tropical botany at the University of Mainz , which honored him with an honorary professorship . Schoser was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit First Class , the plaque of honor of the city of Frankfurt am Main in 1992 and numerous awards in the field of botany. Schoser and his wife Rita eventually became honorary members of the Society of Friends of the Palmengarten .

In 1965 , together with Karlheinz Senghas, Schoser described the newly discovered Paphiopedilum sukhakulii Schoser & Senghas in Thailand . Another women shoes in 1988 after him as Paphiopedilum schoseri Braem & H.Mohr referred.
