Gustav Tugendreich
Gustav Tugendreich (born October 21, 1876 in Berlin , † January 21, 1948 in Los Angeles) was a German pediatrician and social hygienist.
Gustav Tugendreich studied medicine, received his doctorate in Leipzig in 1902 and in 1906 took over the management of a newly founded urban infant welfare office in Berlin. From 1919 to 1921 he was head of the social hygiene department at the main health office in Berlin. Until his dismissal after the seizure of power in 1933, he headed the infant care department in Berlin. In 1938 he emigrated to the United States.
Tugendreich researched the social causes of diseases and the possibilities of disease prevention . He advocated care for young children and systematic preventive examinations .
On July 13, 2019 , stumbling blocks were laid for him and his family at his former place of residence, Berlin-Westend , Reichsstraße 104 .
