Gustav von Hüfner
Gustav Hüfner , from 1895 by Hüfner , (born May 13, 1840 in Köstritz , † March 14, 1908 in Tübingen ) was a German chemist .
Hüfner studied in Leipzig and Jena . He received his doctorate in 1866 and initially worked for Robert Wilhelm Bunsen in the field of physical chemistry . After he headed the chemical department of the Leipzig Physiological Institute, he later took over the Physiological-Chemical Institute in Tübingen .
One of his main focuses was the chemistry of hemoglobin . He was able to determine how much oxygen can be bound by 1 g of hemoglobin, a value known as the Hüfner number .
In 1882 Hüfner was elected a member of the Leopoldina , in 1895 he was awarded the Cross of Honor of the Order of the Württemberg Crown , which was associated with the personal title of nobility .
