Gustave Amédée Humbert

Gustave Amédée Humbert (born June 28, 1822 in Metz , † September 24, 1894 in Beauzelle , Haute-Garonne department ) was a French politician and lawyer.

Humbert studied law in Paris, obtained his doctorate in 1844 and was a repetent of law in Paris when he was appointed sub-prefect of Thionville in March 1848 .

Deposed in 1851, he resumed his lectures in Paris and was appointed professor of Roman law in Toulouse in 1861 . In February 1871 he was elected a member of the National Assembly there and joined the republican left, of which he became vice-president.

He took an excellent part in the work of the congregation. At the end of 1875 he was appointed lifelong senator and in December 1877 general procurator at the Court of Audit. Under Charles de Freycinet , he took over the Justice Ministry on January 30, 1882, but resigned with the entire cabinet on July 29 and became Vice President of the Senate.
