Gustavo Fernández (born January 20, 1994 in Río Tercero ) is an Argentine wheelchair tennis player .

Career

Gustavo Fernández started wheelchair tennis at the age of 13 and has been in the paraplegic class ever since .

When he first participated in the Paralympic Games in 2012 , he reached the quarter-finals in singles, where he was defeated by Stéphane Houdet in three sets. In doubles he was eliminated with Agustín Ledesma in the first round.

He celebrated his first major success by winning the doubles competition at Wimbledon alongside Joachim Gérard . In 2016 he won the singles at the French Open , and the following year he won the Australian Open .

In the world rankings, he achieved his best placings with third place in singles on April 8, 2013 and fifth in doubles on May 16, 2016.
