Gustavo Fricke

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gustavo Fricke Rivas (born October 16, 1919 in Veracruz , Veracruz ) is a former Mexican football player in the position of goalkeeper , who also played a key role in the revival of the football club CD Veracruz, which disappeared from the scene in 1953, in 1960.

Life

Gustavo Fricke played when the Mexican professional league was introduced in the 1943/44 season for the CD Veracruz and two years later was part of the team of the championship team in the 1945/46 season , which brought a championship title to the port city on the Gulf of Mexico for the first time .

The poor sources do not reveal whether Fricke was also part of the squad for the next successes, the cup victory in 1948 or the championship title of the 1949/50 season . What is certain, however, is that after the descent of the Tiburones Rojos in the summer of 1952, Fricke founded Atlético de Veracruz, a new club of which he also became president. Because the newly created club was accepted into the Segunda División with immediate effect , both opponents from Veracruz were represented in the second division in the 1952/53 season . While the CD Veracruz got the second division license withdrawn at the end of the 1952/53 season and fell apart, Atlético continued to play in the Segunda División at the beginning of the 1953/54 season, but was forced to withdraw from the league early due to significant problems. Because this was done in agreement with the league, the right to return to the league later was kept open, creating the basis and the structures for the revival of CD Veracruz in 1960, which was back in from the 1961/62 season the second division was allowed to compete, which is primarily due to the tireless efforts of Fricke.
