Gustavo Jiménez
Gustavo Jiménez (* 1886 in Tarma , † 1933 in Lima ) was a Peruvian colonel and politician who was Peruvian President for a few days in 1931.
Life
Jiménez organized one of the various uprisings that led to the overthrow of the government of Augusto B. Leguía . After the nomination of General Luis Miguel Sánchez Cerro as provisional president, Jiménez's supporters remained under arms because he did not agree with the decision. After the overthrow of Sánchez Cerro and a short interim episode under Ricardo Leoncio Elías Arias , the office of president was handed over to Jiménez on March 5, 1931 after his return from the south and a conversation with Elías, although the dignity was previously transferred to David Samanez Ocampo on the same Days had been agreed.
Since the country did not come to rest and there was strong resistance from the navy and parts of the citizenry, Jiménez was deposed on March 11th. Samanez Ocampo became president and initiated new elections.
