Gustavo de Simone (born April 23, 1948 ) is a former Uruguayan football player and coach.
Player career
society
Defensive player de Simone made his debut in 1969 at Defensor in the Primera División . He was a member of the club until 1976. In the years 1969 to 1972 he is explicitly shown on the club's website as a regular player, while no statement is made there for the following years. With the Montevideans he also took part in the club's tour in 1972 through Mexico, Central America and Venezuela. In 1976 he moved to the Chacarita Juniors .
National team
De Simone was a member of Uruguay's senior team , for which he made eight international matches from his debut on July 1, 1973 to his last appearance on April 27, 1974. He did not score an international goal. De Simone took part with Uruguay in the 1974 World Cup in the Federal Republic of Germany . In the course of the tournament, however, he was not used.
Coaching career
After his active career, de Simone also worked as a trainer from the late 1970s. Among other things, he was in charge of the Costa Rican national team from 1987 to 1989 . As early as 1992, but at least again in 1995, he was the national coach of Panama . The Central American national team played a particularly unsuccessful World Cup qualification at the time and only ranked 150th in the FIFA world rankings. In July 2003 he took over the coaching position at CD Luis Ángel Firpo . As of September 2007, a career station as a coach of the Costa Rican second division club Belén is listed. Claudio Jara acted as de Simone's assistant coach there. In the Apertura 2008 he was coach at Atlético Balboa in El Salvador and was dismissed after an exceptionally unsuccessful engagement on the 6th matchday after a 3-7 defeat against Juventud Independiente in San Juan Opico . He also held the coaching position at clubs in the USA, Taiwan, Colombia, at the Cartago and Heredia clubs in Costa Rica and for two years at the Spanish club Jerez.
