The Good Bustedt is a country castle of the county Ravensberg in the northwest of Hiddenhausen , Herford . Gut Bustedt is the seat of the Biology Center Bustedt .

history

The estate was built in 1415 by knight Heinrich Ledebur as a moated castle on the property of the Herford ladies' monastery. Since the land belonged to the monastery, this led to a feud between Ledebur and the Herford abbess. After the lost feud, Ledebur had to leave the estate in 1419 at the instigation of the Herford abbess. The original castle was demolished and rebuilt by the abbess, became a pawn and was then long associated with the Drosten of the Ravensberg county, above all the Nagel family, who had Bustedt as a fief for over 100 years. For a long time the castle was the seat of the Enger office . The castle therefore fell de facto to the Counts of Ravensberg . From 1649 the castle was converted into a moated castle by Rittmeister Wolf-Ernst Eller, confidante of the Great Elector of Brandenburg and commander of the Sparrenburg . The county of Ravensberg had meanwhile fallen to Brandenburg-Prussia and Eller received the castle from the Prussians as reward for his betrayal of the city of Herford to the Swedes in the Thirty Years War . In 1964 the Bustedt estate, which had previously been owned by the von Eller family , later Eller-Eberstein , came into the possession of the Hiddenhausen Office.

Buildings

The estate is laid out on two islands that define the outer and main castle. The manor house with residential tower, which was built between 1649 and 1662, stands on the main castle. Up until the 19th century there was a cow house and a Bauhaus on the outer bailey, which can be reached via a baroque bridge. The moat of the estate are the Brandbachstrasse fed. When the Hiddenhausen Office bought the estate, the agricultural land was sold and in 1980 a biology center finally moved into the estate. School classes dive into the "world of biology " here, but there is also biological research. Couples can also be married in the estate.

park

In the second half of the 18th century, the house was partially backfilled and kitchen gardens were initially created on the enlarged island . Ornamental garden elements were added to the garden around 1820 . Since 1982, the biology center has laid out training gardens around the estate, including a cottage garden for biology classes for students.

Bustedt district

Bustedt is also the name of the Bünder district on whose territory the estate is no longer located. But until 1968, Bustedt belonged to the Hiddenhausen district as an independent municipality. During the territorial reform in 1969, the area of Gut Bustedt was separated from Bustedt and remained with the newly created community of Hiddenhausen.
