The Miesbach high school is a state high school in the district town of Miesbach . In the 2017/2018 school year, 923 students attended the school, who were taught by 64 full-time teachers.

history

Already in the years around 1900 there were efforts to build a middle school in Miesbach . In 1922 it was finally founded; the school was able to start operations in the former Haidmühl café-restaurant. In the 1940s expanded into a secondary school, the school passed from the ownership of the city to that of the Free State in 1957 and has since been called the Staatliches Gymnasium Miesbach .

building

The current building was built between 1961 and 1963 and was expanded considerably from 1984 to 1994 under the direction of the school director Andreas Scherm. In 2009 a cafeteria was added, which can be used by students of the grammar school and the secondary school in Miesbach .

The grammar school also has its own emblem: when the high school graduates of 1991 were looking for a meaningful design motif for their graduation ceremony, they decided on the emblem of Pegasus , the winged muse steed of the Greek hero Bellerophon . Since then, this has been the school's official coat of arms.

In 1996, after almost three years of artistic and technical debate, an almost life-size image of the horse made of aluminum was completed, which stood on the canopy of the main school building until the start of the renovation work.

particularities

The school has its own orchestra , as well as a big band and chamber choir , which have already won several competitions. The chamber choir, under the direction of Markus Zellinger, won z. B. 2013 at the Bavarian Choir Competition first prize in the category 'Youth Choirs - Mixed Voices' and thus received the right to participate in the 9th German Choir Competition 2014 in Weimar. There he won the second prize in the same category.

The last solar eclipse, the Orion Nebula , the Comet Hale-Bopp and the protostar in Taurus were documented in the school's observatory . It is out of operation for the duration of the renovation, but will be used again.

There is an SMV that has its own website.

The high school has a school cafe called Styx , whose staff is recruited from among the students. The Styx reopened in January 2014 after the renovation work.

In addition, the school newspaper Kaktus has been published since 1994 with current content from everyday school life, initially several times a year, then there was no school newspaper for a while. In 2014, a project seminar tried to revive the tradition of the school newspaper and brought out the magazine "AllgemeineBILDung".
