Gysbert Japicx
Gysbert Japicx or Gysbert Japiks or Gysbert Japix (* 1603 in Bolsward , Friesland ; † 1666 ibid) was an important Dutch - Frisian writer of the Renaissance . The Gysbert Japicxpriis is named after him.
Gysbert Japicx worked as a teacher and cantor in Bolsward until his death. Japicx cherishes the ancient writers Ovid and Horace and finally made his debut in 1640 with his own stories and poems in West Frisian ( Friessche tjerne ). Japicx showed that West Frisian could also be used as the language of poetry. Fryske rijmlerye was published posthumously in 1688 .
Gysbert Japicx established a modern West Frisian literary language with his works in the 17th century and thus helped to shape the modern West Frisian standard language .
