The Högvadsån river is the largest tributary of the Ätran .
The river arises in the southeast of the municipality of Svenljunga in Västra Götalands län from several streams and then flows in a first south-southwest and then southward direction through the municipality of Falkenberg in Hallands län . There he touches u. a. the following localities: the perpetrators Älvsered and Ullared and the småorter Svartrå and Köinge .
Hjärtaredsån joins him in Ullared. The Sumpafallen nature reserve is located south of Ullared . The approximately 10 km long tributary Svartån flows into it near Svartrå Church. At Ätrafors it finally flows into the Ätran.
Together with the Ätran, Högvadsån is the most important fishing area on the west coast for salmon . It is whitewashed to counteract acid rain . As a " Natura 2000 " area, it is under protection.
