Architecture and history

The half-timbered house was built according to a dating located on the threshold in 1614 and is registered in the Quedlinburg monument register as a residential building. The inscription also gives the builder's initials. As is customary for such early inscriptions in Quedlinburg, the inscription is designed with raised letters. From 1837 to 1903 the first floor was used as a Jewish prayer room. It had a women's gallery on the second floor and a bay window in which the Torah shrine was located. The cantor lived on the first floor . In 1903 the prayer room was closed due to a ban on use due to construction defects and the building was sold. Around 1900 the facade of the first floor was set back.

In 2005, Hell 5 was renovated by qbatur architects . The ground floor is now used by the "Himmel & Hölle" restaurant, while holiday apartments are located on the upper floors.
